Question Title
Why does my system (in first boot screen and windows property) only recognize 3GB of memory when 4GB (4X1GB) DDR400 memory is installed?

Answer
Regarding this behavior, 512M memory (at least) will be occupied by system if you install 4G RAMs because ICH SB/PCI-E/AGP/PCI card and other onboard devices will map to upper memory. Due to current 32bit x86 PC constructure, it will occupy the memory from 4GB (below) & shows 3.xG if you insert 4G memory.
